Empowering Inmates for a Better Future

Understanding Rehabilitation and Correctional Centers in Jordan

In Jordan, what many countries refer to as "prisons" are officially called Rehabilitation and Correctional Centers. Similarly, individuals serving time in these centers are called inmates, not prisoners. These centers focus on rehabilitation rather than punishment, equipping inmates with vocational and life skills to help them reintegrate into society after their release.

One of the core rehabilitation programs involves workshops where inmates are trained in various handcrafted skills, including woodworking, pottery, tailoring, and other crafts. These programs serve multiple purposes:

  • Skill Development: Inmates gain vocational skills that can help them secure employment or start their own businesses after release.

  • Mental and Emotional Well-being: Engaging in handcrafted work requires focus, reducing anxiety, overthinking, and regret.

  • Social Benefits: These activities help create a sense of purpose, structure, and productivity, leading to better reintegration into society upon release.

Our Cooperation with the Public Security Directorate

Our association ensures that the rehabilitation process continues beyond an inmate's release, providing them with economic opportunities and post-release support.

How This Cooperation Works

  • Before Release: Inmates who participate in rehabilitation programs and develop marketable handcrafted skills are identified by the correctional centers.

  • After Release: These skilled individuals are given access to our e-commerce platform, where they can sell their handcrafted items to the public.

  • Income Distribution:

    • 80% of the total sale goes directly to the inmate who crafted the item, providing them with financial support.

    • 20% covers shipping, handling, and packaging costs incurred by our association.

The Impact of This Cooperation

  • Economic Independence: Provides released inmates with an income stream, reducing the likelihood of reoffending.

  • Seamless Reintegration: Empowers individuals to become self-reliant, easing their transition back into society.

  • Sustainable Rehabilitation: Ensures that the skills learned in correctional centers are utilized, keeping former inmates productive and motivated.

  • National and Social Benefits: Strengthens social stability by reducing recidivism and promoting successful rehabilitation stories.

This collaboration has already demonstrated remarkable success in the rehabilitation and reintegration process, proving that with the right support, former inmates can reintegrate into society as productive members. Our joint efforts with the Public Security Directorate aim to break the cycle of recidivism and offer second chances to those who have served their time.
